Background:

Amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 summit addressed urgent challenges and opportunities in digital transformation across the Asia-Pacific region. The event focused on leveraging technology for societal resilience, equitable access, and sustainable innovation.


Key Themes:

  1. Tech for Crisis Response

    • Case studies on AI-driven pandemic tracking, telemedicine platforms, and remote education tools deployed across Asia.

  2. Ethical AI & Data Governance

    • Workshops on privacy-preserving frameworks and algorithmic accountability in public-sector digitalization.

  3. Bridging the Digital Divide

    • Panel discussions on rural connectivity, digital literacy initiatives, and inclusive fintech solutions for underserved communities.

  4. Green Innovation

    • Showcases of smart energy grids, circular economy tech, and ASEAN’s roadmap for low-carbon digital infrastructure.

1,200+ attendees from 40+ countries, including policymakers, academia, tech entrepreneurs, NGO leaders, and APIITI students.


Outcomes & Legacy:

  • Launched the APIITI Digital Resilience Toolkit, an open-access resource for SMEs and public institutions.

  • Formed the Asia-Pacific EdTech Alliance, a coalition of 30+ universities and tech companies to standardize remote learning frameworks.

  • Inspired APIITI’s later establishment of a Center for Ethical AI in 2021.
